Kempt Field is a 3.17-hectare public reserve in south Sydney. This site has a complex history, operating as a brick quarry before being used as a waste landfill and later converted into public open space for recreational use.

Georges River Council is leading its $11.8 million remediation project in collaboration with the Waste Assets Management Corporation and Planning Ministerial Corporation. To address longstanding subsidence, buried waste and contamination associated with the former landfill, planned works include a protective capping system, gas ventilation, site rehabilitation and landscaping.

In 2024, Tree Survey was called in by lead contractor WSP Australia to provide accurate arboricultural information that would support remediation planning and delivery.

Our team completed a detailed Tree Survey and Preliminary Tree Assessment, providing precise tree locations and reliable assessments of tree condition and structure.

An Arboricultural Impact Assessment then evaluated how the proposed remediation works could affect existing trees and informed decisions around retention and removal.

We also prepared a Tree Protection Plan with practical measures for retained trees during remediation works.

Ultimately, our accurate assessments helped the project team manage existing trees alongside the complex remediation of the former landfill. All documentation was delivered within budget and on schedule.
