The Kembla Grange Electrical Upgrade formed part of the NSW Government’s More Trains, More Services program—an ambitious rail modernisation initiative aimed at improving service frequency and reliability across the T4 Illawarra line.
In September and October 2022, lead contractor Transport for Tomorrow delivered critical electrical infrastructure works at Kembla Grange railway station. This included de-vegetation at the substation to make way for new galvanised steel troughing.
Tree Survey was appointed at the earliest stage to deliver specialist arboricultural services, ensuring that tree assessments were fully integrated into construction planning and implementation.
To start, we conducted a Tree Survey and Preliminary Tree Assessment to establish essential baseline information on species, health, and structural condition. This was followed by an Arboricultural Impact Assessment, which helped evaluate how the proposed works might affect surrounding trees.
Finally, we developed a detailed Tree Protection Plan, defining exclusion zones, specifying protective measures for heavy machinery operations, and setting protocols to reduce disturbance to retained vegetation.
Completed on time and within budget, Tree Survey’s services equipped the project team with precise mapping, clear recommendations, and robust protective strategies throughout the upgrade.
