Heathcote Road serves as a key arterial route between Heathcote and Liverpool, providing vital access between Sydney’s southern suburbs and the wider motorway network. It also acts as an important connection for commuters travelling to Holsworthy Train Station and the nearby Army Barracks, supporting both local traffic and defence operations.

The Heathcote Road Upgrade is a major Transport for NSW project designed to improve safety, traffic capacity and resilience along 2.2km of this key transport corridor. Works include creating a four-lane divided road with new traffic lights, duplicating bridges, constructing a shared pedestrian and cyclist path, and upgrading utilities, drainage, and safety barriers.

In 2022, Tree Survey was engaged by lead contractor Ertech to provide specialist arboricultural services during the planning and construction phases.

To begin, our team conducted a detailed Tree Survey and Preliminary Tree Assessment to document existing vegetation, tree health and structure within the project footprint.

An Arboricultural Impact Assessment was then prepared to evaluate potential effects of bridge and road works on surrounding trees, followed by a tailored Tree Protection Plan to guide site operations and retention measures.

By delivering accurate mapping, thorough assessments and clear technical advice, Tree Survey supported project delivery teams in achieving a more efficient upgrade — all while maintaining best-practice vegetation management.

This informed a robust Arboricultural Impact Assessment and the development of a tailored Tree Protection Plan to manage retention and removals during construction.

All Tree Survey reports were completed on time and within budget. Through precise mapping, practical guidance and clear documentation, we supported Stantec and Liverpool City Council in delivering an efficient, future-focused road upgrade for the growing Austral community.
