The Hawthorne Street Footpath Connection in Beresfield is one of several upgrades delivered under the City of Newcastle’s Pedestrian Access & Mobility Plan (PAMP)—an initiative reshaping how people move through their neighbourhoods.
In 2022, Tree Survey was brought on to assess and manage tree-related risks along the proposed alignment. Our role was to ensure that this community upgrade didn’t come at the cost of valuable green infrastructure.
First, we conducted a Tree Survey and Preliminary Tree Assessment to catalogue the street’s existing trees and evaluate their health, structure, and retention potential.
These insights fed into our Arboricultural Impact Assessment, which identified potential effects of development on existing trees, as well as any required removals and key constraints.
A site-specific Tree Protection Plan followed, detailing clear mitigation measures to safeguard retained trees throughout construction.
Performed in liaison with Council’s civil project team, our arboricultural services supported a smooth Connection rollout—one that blends improved pedestrian access with the preservation of Beresfield’s natural streetscape.
