A striking addition to Parramatta’s riverfront, the Alfred Street Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridge is Australia’s first diagonal arch bridge. Spanning almost 200 metres and 4.5 metres wide, it crosses the Parramatta River between James Ruse Drive and Gasworks Bridge, safely linking the CBD, Harris Park, and Rosehill.
Co-funded by the City of Parramatta and the NSW Government, this $19 million project forms part of the city’s River Transformation initiative — a long-term program to revitalise the waterway and expand active transport networks.
The bridge connects directly to the future Parramatta Light Rail stop on the southern side, linking residents with schools, community services, and over 20km of scenic off-road paths.
In 2020, Tree Survey was enlisted by lead contractor, Bonacci Infrastructure, to provide arboricultural insights across planning, design, and construction. The bridge’s riverside setting, framed by riparian vegetation and mature street trees, required a precise understanding of local tree conditions before works could start.
Our team completed a Tree Survey, Preliminary Tree Assessment, Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Tree Protection Plan, and ongoing Project Arborist Services.
These assessments delivered detailed mapping, accurate location data, and site-specific protection strategies to safeguard retained vegetation during piling, access works, and bridge installation.
Ultimately, Tree Survey supported the project team in managing vegetation effectively through accurate reporting and clear on-site guidance. All services were finished on time and to schedule.
